Back to school!

Back to school we are all! Parker's settling into second grade. Quinn gives a VERY detailed and FULL report about her kindergarten day almost every day. Soccer has started. Parker has practice every Tuesday and Thursday night with a game on Saturday. Quinn has a clinic of sorts for her age group every Saturday morning....that is, if the rain holds off...

The weather has been quite something. The kids first day of school was cancelled due to Hurricane Irene. We wound up with a couple inches of water in our basement because our subpump turned off for some reason in the middle of the night. That was nothing compared to some people, though...especially out by Harrisburg. It rained most of April. It rained most of May. It rained the second half of August. Wish I could share some of it with Texas. Today feels like the first day of fall. It's crisp, cool, and breezy out. THIS weather I love! It's good for sports attending, as well, which leads me back to the kids...

Parker had a permanent (i.e. about 10 month) space put in his upper palate. He slurs a bit and slurps a lot. It has made him very self-conscious and withdrawn a bit. It seems to be working already, though. His front tooth is dropping rather quickly. The other one has gotten very lose. He has now taken to skateboarding. His shins look like someone kicks him there constantly all day. He's so freaking smart. I know, I know...all parents say that, but really...everything academic seems to come so easily to him. Makes me wonder sometime if we should have jumped him a grade. No...we made the right choice. I just don't want him getting bored.

As for her...she is easily the most imaginiative person to whom I am related. She's making some friends and trying to find her way. Drama is her middle name. She's smart, too, although she's not as apt to show it. When she does something academic, she does it really well and right the first time, just like her brother. Here's hoping it stays on this course! She also seems really good at soccer. This is great since she has yet to show any athletic inclination whatsoever. She does want to dance. I'll check into that once soccer's done.

Kev and I trek along working and parenting. We started our fantasy football last week. Oh...and Don doesn't have Alzheimer's. YEAH! He has frontal lobe dementia. Right.

Well...today's the day...the start of my 2011-2012 school year. Tomorrow night is Quinn's kindergarten orientation (pics to follow), and Parker's is Thursday. They go back next Monday. She does the first two days in the AM and then moves to PM permanently. Deanna's going to be a sophomore. Wow. What a summer...

Took the boy back to school shopping. No pics, though, because, you know...he can't be bothered. Didn't get his spacer from the orthodontist in because his temporary spacers fell out and the hole closed. Back on Sept. 12th for that.

Kev went deep sea fishing with Todd and Pete this past Saturday. No pics, though.

Mom has obstructive sleep apnea. "They" are checking into one of those CPAP machines for her.

I took Quinn for yet another round of school clothes shopping. She wanted to model all the outfits for Deanna, but Deanna was not home. Instead, she tried on several outfits for Pappy and happily posed for pictures for Grandpa Dan and Grandma Joann. She also got sliver, sparkly flat dress shoes (that are in the pics with the dresses) and a pair of Sketcher-type sneakers that are also sparkly and light up. Her Barbie backpack and Victorious lunchbox have been acquired, as well. Parker? He told me to "pick him out some clothes...nothing sparkly" and got a black backpack with a skull on it and a matching lunchbox.

3 days until I go back for some "official business". 8 days until school starts. Syllabi have been submitted for duplicating. Working on worksheets for the first few weeks. Let's get it started!

Vermont

Vermont was a hit! It always is. We are home now. Time to start gearing up for the next school year. I go back for faculty stuff starting next Wednesday night, and then my classes start the following Monday. The kids start the week after that. I have to take them for their backpacks and lunch boxes sometime next week. We probably won't know their teachers (or AM/PM kindergarten for Quinn) for at least another week yet. This summer started off with a bang with the Disney trip, quickly spiraled out of control with family issues (mostly medical...some not), switched gears to a few day trips once that all straightened out, and then wrapped up with the Vermont trip. I cannot believe it's just about over. Well...at least there are the pictures by which to remember it! Enjoy!

It's been a LONG time since I've put any text on here. I was caught up in the Facebook craze. I did all of my daily...no...hourly posting on there and thought it felt repetitive to retype it onto here. Now that I have deactivated the FB account, I will update here more often...and more in detail...since this is mostly for the family who are interested in what goes on in our lives on a daily basis. So...what's been going on?

We went to Disney World in May and had the best trip there I have ever experienced. Quinn got to have breakfast with the princesses, and Parker got to experience Star Wars weekend at Hollywood Studios. Kevin, of course, got to go on every rollercoaster mulitple times, which made his trip. Twas a fabulous time.

Coming back, we started the kids in daycamps at the college and spent the afternoon at either Mom and Don's pool or a local pool with friends. This lasted a few weeks until my mother was admitted to the hospital. She had a stroke. The following week she went back into the hospital with a heart problem. She's currently undergoing tests to determine why her heart rate drops so low. It has been determined that she has sleep apnea. There is another test to be done this weekend to test the water levels in her brain or something like that. In any event, she is to remain as stress free as possible which is hard to do with Don around. Love him, but his disease gets harder and harder to deal with as time goes on. He gets nasty and almost narcassistic without thinking. His obsessive/compulsiveness can be difficult at times, too. However, other times he's just fine. He hasn't started wandering or being completely forgetful as of yet. He's just...a lot.

Parker is getting ready to start 2nd grade. We should know in about a week or so who his teacher is and all that other information. He has lost two teeth with one more on the way out. The 17th of August he goes to the orthodontist for a spacer to be placed on the top. Seems he's all crowded up there. He loves his Nazi Zombies, Legos, guns, and, of course, Star Wars.

Quinn is getting ready to start kindergarten. She cannot WAIT to ride the bus with her big brother, eat in the cafeteria, and meet some new friends. Academics? Okay, Mom. She loves getting her nails painted, getting her hair done, singing, dancing, reading books, and playing with/taking care of her dolls/stuffed animals. She's a lovey!

We are leaving for our annual trek to Vermont. We have no idea how much longer we'll be going up there, but we do enjoy it when we go. The kids, especially. Once we get back, I'll have one week until I go back to work, so we will make the most of it. Pictures will follow.
